Full Digital Transformation — Trade Banking & Channel Modernisation
End-to-End Digital Transformation: From Legacy Trade to Digital Banking
Sector: Digital Transformation
Excerpt: IBC Solutions partnered with a mid-tier commercial bank to lead a comprehensive digital transformation programme — replacing a decades-old trade banking system, launching a modern mobile and internet banking platform, and rebuilding key operational processes from the ground up.
The Challenge
Our client, a mid-tier commercial bank with a long-established retail and SME customer base, was operating on a trade core banking system that had been in place for over 15 years. The system’s limitations were becoming a strategic liability: product launches required months of customisation work, mobile and internet banking capabilities lagged behind customer expectations, and manual workarounds had proliferated across operations. Staff productivity was constrained by fragmented systems, duplicate data entry, and a lack of real-time information.
The bank’s leadership made a decision to pursue a full digital transformation — not merely a technology refresh, but a root-and-branch reimagination of how the bank operated and served its customers.
Our Approach
IBC Solutions was engaged as the lead advisory and programme management partner. We began with a current-state diagnostic covering trade core banking capabilities, channel architecture, operational processes, and data quality — identifying the full scope of transformation required and establishing a prioritised roadmap.
The trade core banking replacement was structured as the foundational workstream, with IBC Solutions managing vendor selection, contract negotiation, implementation oversight, and data migration planning. Parallel workstreams covered internet banking and mobile app deployment, API gateway establishment for third-party integrations, and process re-engineering across retail banking operations, trade finance, and credit.
Throughout the programme, IBC Solutions maintained a dedicated change management and training function, recognising that technology alone does not deliver transformation. All staff-facing changes were supported by structured training, updated procedures, and a dedicated helpdesk during the stabilisation period.
Data migration was treated as a programme in its own right: historical account, customer, and transaction data was cleansed, mapped, and validated through multiple migration dress rehearsals before the final cutover weekend.
