SWIFT SR2025 Full MX Migration
SWIFT SR2025: Leading the Full MT-to-MX Migration for a Commercial Bank
Sector: SWIFT & Payments
Excerpt: IBC Solutions delivered the complete MT-to-MX migration for a commercial bank as part of the SWIFT SR2025 programme, achieving full ISO 20022 compliance ahead of the November 2025 industry deadline — the most significant change to cross-border payments infrastructure in a generation.
The Challenge
November 2025 marked the end of the SWIFT MT coexistence period and the mandatory transition to ISO 20022 MX messaging for all cross-border payments. For our client, this represented the most structurally significant change to their payments infrastructure in decades. Unlike previous annual standards releases, SR2025 required fundamental changes to message formats, data models, payment processing logic, and reconciliation workflows — all while maintaining business continuity across a high-volume payments operation.
The bank faced several interrelated challenges: legacy core banking interfaces built around MT field structures, a correspondent network of varying ISO 20022 readiness levels, and limited internal bandwidth to manage such a complex programme alongside ongoing business demands.
Our Approach
IBC Solutions took ownership of the MX migration programme under a structured programme management framework. We began with a thorough baseline of all live SWIFT message flows, volumes, and downstream dependencies — including reconciliation, accounting, AML screening, and regulatory reporting systems that consumed MT-formatted data.
A message mapping and translation layer was designed to handle the structural differences between MT and MX formats, with particular attention to the expanded structured address, LEI, and purpose code fields required under CBPR+ MX schemas. We coordinated with the core banking vendor and third-party interface providers to update all relevant system components, then executed an end-to-end testing programme across unit, integration, and UAT phases.
Correspondent bank readiness was managed proactively: our team contacted all key correspondents to confirm their MX readiness status, agree on transition dates, and test bilateral MX message exchange. A parallel-run period was operated prior to cutover, allowing the bank to validate MX output against expected results before switching off MT origination.
Cutover was executed over a planned maintenance window with a live war-room session managed by IBC Solutions, covering real-time monitoring of the first production MX messages and immediate escalation support.
